Born in Mani-Utenam, Richard Fontaine "Menutan" has devoted himself to painting since the age of thirty.

Listening to the land, to the history that carried him, the artist paints the "Nitissinan", the territory of his ancestors.

In his paintings, he magnificently brings back to life the thousand-year-old heritage of his people. He looks at the elders and retraces their history: he exorcises their fears and brings to light their hopes.

His works, apparently fragile, are in fact intensely imbued with meaning and constitute a true passageway to the memory of a people.

"My paintings reveal the soul of the First Nations and deliver themselves as a wish for healing," says the artist.

Richard “Menutan” made the history of his nation and, by the same token, that of Sept-Îles, shine throughout the world. The works of Richard Fontaine have indeed conquered collectors from all over the world.
